History

Ingenieurbüro Norbert Derenda, the engineering office that preceded today's company, was founded by the graduate engineer Norbert Derenda in Berlin in 1972. It specialized in developing and manufacturing air quality monitoring devices. Work on developing the first samplers for determining airborne particle concentrations was initiated in 1976 in conjunction with the Federal Health Agency in Berlin. The applied measuring method was adopted as a standard procedure in statutory regulations, including VDI guidelines and the Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control (TA Luft).

In the intervening period our low volume sampler LVS has been continuously refined; in 1999 it was adopted as a reference device for the relevant European regulations. The product range has been steadily expanded in the light of technical progress to encompass sampling systems, automatic weighing systems and real-time measuring instruments to facilitate the direct and continuous determination of fine particulate concentrations. In common with many of our more recent developments, the market-leading LVS has been operating successfully in numerous applications throughout the EU for many years.

COMDE GmbH, the second precursor of Comde-Derenda GmbH, was founded in 1992. Its specialty field was the development and production of devices for monitoring gas (SF6) density in high-voltage systems. COMDE gas density monitors continue to make a reliable and effective contribution to operating safety in this segment. It also originated a range of aids for the visually impaired, which are still being marketed throughout Europe, including the proven COMDE folding white cane.

In 2000 COMDE GmbH was certified in compliance with standard EN 9001. From the same year Ingenieurbüro Norbert Derenda was a supporting member of the Commission on Air Pollution Prevention (KRdL), which is a joint body of the VDI and DIN. In October 2007 Norbert Derenda was appointed to the KRdL working party 4/2/09 – Ambient Pollution Measurement Methods. In 2002 our company's quality management system was audited for compliance with EN 9001:2000, and in the following years we passed all audits for compliance with EN 9001:2008 and EN 9001:2015.

Our current operating facility and production premises in Stahnsdorf were built in 2007. Two additional development and production buildings were added to the site in 2010 and 2018. In 2011, Ingenieurbüro Norbert Derenda and COMDE GmbH merged to form Comde-Derenda GmbH.
